Insurgency: Defence Minister Commends Troops, Calls For Professionalism and Speedy Defeat of Terrorism

The Minister of Defence, Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) has commended Nigerian troops for the successes recorded in the fight against insurgency in the country.

Magashi gave the commendation when he paid a maiden Operational visit to the Theatre Command Operation LAFIYA DOLE.

During the visit, the Minister was briefed by the Theatre Commander, Operation LAFIYA DOLE Maj Gen OG Adeniyi on the state of the operation.

The Minister commended troops of the Nigerian Army for their commitments and the obvious achievements recorded so far in the fight to end insurgency and assured them of the support President Muhammadu Buhari in the area of providing necessary logistics.

In his words, "With the caliber of well trained, experienced and committed senior officers that I see here, I have no doubt that you are capable to effectively prosecute this war to the end".

The minister conducted a tour of selected locations at Magumeri where he inspected the ongoing project at the Super Camp of the Special Forces Command in Chabbol and visited Sector 3 Operation LAFIYA DOLE in Gubio where he addressed the troops.

According to the Magashi, "What we have now compared to 2015 is an indication that a lot has been achieved. I am here, on behalf of the President to let you know that we appreciate you and we are with you and nobody has abondoned you".

"I wish you successful operations so that in no distant time we will end this war".

Magashi further charged the troops to carry out their operations with utmost professionalism, loyalty and respect for human rights.

The Minister and his entourage was accompanied by the Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen TY Buratai, representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of the Naval Staff and the Chief of the Air Staff as well as Directors of Army and Air force Ministry of Defence, Dr Hassan Abdullahi and Mr Peter Ashibel Utsu.

The team also visited the wounded troops at the 7 Division Military Hospital and Services in Maimalari Cantonment.

Nigerian Army Team Bags Gold, Bronze In Taekwando Competition

The 8th Edition of the Inspector General of Police (IGP's) Open Taekwondo Championship, has ended, with the Nigerian Army Taekwando team, winning 7 medals. The competition was held at the Civic Centre, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from 24 to 28 July, 2019. The championship featured participants from the 36 States of the Federation, as well as various Taekwondo Clubs across the country. Some international athletes from West African countries also participated in the event. About 250 competitors participated in the championship. Nigerian Army's Taekwondo team, made up of 12 athletes comprising 8 male and 4 female, featured in the exciting tourney.
