Nigerian Army troops in a swift and professional encounter has prevented what could have been a major casualty to troops and passengers who ply the Maiduguri – Kondunga – Bama axis in the Northeast.
According to a statement credited to the Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Col. Ado Isa the latest desperate effort by the terrorists is aimed at frustrating the proactive and offensive action in the ongoing Counter terrorism Operation (Operation "Halaka Dodo").
The gallant troops of Operation Lafiya Dole thwarted the diversionary ploy by terrorists to frustrate smooth movement of troops, logistics and other road users on the axis.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu along with the Commander 21 Special Armoured Brigade late visited the scene for on the spot assessment of the road before reopening.
The affected area was scanned and cleared by the team of Engineers Ordinance Detachment to allow for safe movement of troops and other road users accordingly.
"General Bulama stated that the conduct of intensive mobile patrols, ambushes and piqueting in the general area has rendered the terrorists incapable of operating freely and has to resort to other means including burying of IED. He therefore charged the troops to remain more determined and committed in the operation in order to deny them freedom of action.
"Similarly, Super Camp Konduga mobilized its engineers and locals within the area to help to mend the affected parts of the road in order to ease free and safe movement of troops, logistics and other commuters".
