The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has formally unveiled the newly built Nigerian Army Intelligence Corp (Annex) in Abuja.
The edifice commissioned on Wednesday was approved for construction on the 12th day of December 2018 during the formal launching of Nigerian Army Intelligence Headquarters. It was completed within a space of nine months.
Addressing dignitaries at the event, the Commander of Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps, Major General Samuel Adebayo thanked the COAS for approving necessary funds and logistics which led to speedy completion of the project within the shortest while.
The Commander noted that despite the fast mode of construction, the newly built counter intelligence command is equipped with state of the art facilities.
General Adebayo further stated that the Chief of Army Staff has approved the relocation of Nigerian Army Investigative School from Lagos State to Abuja, for optimal performance.
He also disclosed that COAS has assented the building of Special Intelligence Cells across the country.
"The Nigerian Army since inception has not received the style of innovation and development we witnessed since 2015 under the leadership of General Buratai. He provided the necessary support for the actualization of this project within a space of nine months and it is fitted with state of the art facilities. I lack words to appreciate the Chief of Army Staff.
"General Buratai changed the former the portfolio of Director, Army Intelligence Corps to Chief of Intelligence and initiated special programmes that promoted the functionality of the unit. We are indeed eternally grateful" he posited.
He thanked the COAS for building additional accommodation of 32 rooms complex for students of the corps.
He said as a result of the proactive contribution of General Buratai to the welfare, growth and development of Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps, the newly built library is named after the COAS to be known as General TY Buratai e–library.
In a remark, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai said since assumption of office in 2015, he has made deliberate effort to ensure that the Nigerian Army is ever ahead and remain ever dynamic.
He maintained that he has a firm belief that a well equipped Nigerian Army Intelligence Command will have a multiplier effect. In his words, "we shall continue to sustain this line of effort".
General Buratai thanked the President and Commander in Chief for his resolute support to the Nigerian Army while thanking former Directors of Intelligence Command for their sacrifice and patriotism.
He said the Nigerian Army shall "collectively strive to take action through knowledge".
The event witnessed the attendance of Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters including the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun, Corp commanders, traditional rulers notably the Sarakin Samarin Abuja and other well wishers.
