It was a beehive of activities at the National Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Thursday as Prof Seidu Onalo Mohammed picked his nomination and interest form to contest the November 2019 gubernatorial election in Kogi State.
Prof. Seidu, the immediate past Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) arrived the Party Secretariat at about 1:06pm amidst cheers from his supporters and well wishers from the 21 Local Government Areas in Kogi State.
Speaking at a media briefing shortly after purchasing his intent form, he pledged to revamp Kogi State through technology and innovation.
He noted that Kogi State has been stagnated since the past three years despite the fact that it is blessed with over 35 certified mineral resources.
The renowned professor of remote sensing and space technology promised to build modular textile industries across the State because according to him, the Confluence State is the 5th producer of cotton in Nigeria.
"It is my passionate resolve to develop Kogi State through a firm policy of technology and innovation for economic diversification.
"Kogi State is strategically located and we are blessed with numerous mineral resources. Ajaokuta, Itobe and Obajana are natural industrial hub which we can consolidate. We can encourage small and medium enterprises.
"We can utilize the over 35 certified solid minerals in Kogi State through privatization in partnership with the Federal Government.
"We can also create a niche in terms of our agricultural products. Kogi State is the number one producer of cashew in Nigeria. We are also among the five top producer of cotton in Nigeria. Kogi is a natural hub for tourism and the relics of antiquities including the Royal Niger company, mount Patti, residence of the first Governor General among other tourist attractions can be found in our beloved State.
"We can harmonize these prospects through Aero space technology to build a good number of smart city plan".
Prof Seidu who is the fifth aspirant to purchase the party's intent form lamented the poor healthcare system in Kogi State which he promised to improve by upgrading and building state owned hospitals especially in the rural areas.
Seidu Mohammed a former Director General and Chairman of the African Space Forum concluded his remarks saying "I am prepared and I am willing".
Over 166 women and youths group from Kogi State were present at the Secretariat in solidarity with the foremost professor who is "on a rescue mission".
